An Islamic cleric, Prof. Muhammad Abubakar-Walid, has urged pilgrims to streamline their faith and guard against anything that will nullify their hajj.

Mr Abubakar-Walid, who is also a member of the Da’awah Committee, Kebbi Pilgrims Welfare Board, stated this during an enlightenment session shortly after the dawn prayer (Subh) in Makkah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.

The morning enlightenment session has now become a routine exercise to educate the pilgrims on rituals of hajj towards an acceptable Hajj (Hajj Mabrur).

The cleric read from a book published by Saudi Arabian authorities titled, “Dililul Hajji Walmu’tamir” meaning “A guide to pilgrims, lesser hajj performers and visitor to the prophet’s tomb.”

Mr Abubakar-Walid stressed the need for pilgrims to repent and purify their belief in the oneness of Allah (SWT) who created the heavens and the earth and all that contained therein.

He stated, “Just like any human being, Iman (believe in Allah) also gets inflicted with diseases but can be cured. We must always seek to purify and improve on our Iman by demanding to know and understand all the obligatory aspects of worship.’’

The cleric enumerated certain things that nullify one’s belief to include shirk (serving other creatures beside Allah or serving Allah together with other creatures).

He added that shirk was not only limited to idol worship, adding, “but following anything contrary to the laws of Allah (SWT) even your own selfish opinion that goes contrary to Allah’s injunctions.

Mr Abubakar-Walid added, “Deviating from the path of Islam, where a Muslim considers some laws in Islam as outdated or barbaric or considering any law above Islamic law. As a true believer, you must not consider any path other than the path of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him), among others. A Muslim should accept the constitution based on the condition that Nigeria is a secular country and not an Islamic state but he/she should bear in mind that Allah’s law is Supreme.”
