Simone Biles wins fifth Olympic gold as U.S. reclaims women’s team gymnastics title

American gymnast Simone Biles has claimed the fifth overall Olympic gold medal after leading Team USA to the top of the podium in the women’s team gymnastics event at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old, alongside Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Sanisa Lee, and Hezly Rivera, reclaimed the women’s team crown for the United States after the country lost the title to the Russian Olympic Committee at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Biles had helped Team USA finish top in the qualifying event and booked herself spots in three apparatus finals after topping all-round standings. She picked up the incredible performance from where she left it as she arrived at the Bercy Arena on Tuesday to clinch gold.
It is the first time Biles has returned to the top of the podium in eight years since the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games after she pulled out of single events at the Tokyo Games and settled for silver in the women’s team event in the tournament.
Following Team U.S.’s reclaiming of the women’s team title again, Team Italy of Angela Andreoli, Alice D’Amato, Manila Esposito, Elisa Iorio and Giorgia Villa had to settle for silver, while Team Brazil of Rebeca Andrade, Jade Barbosa, Lorrane Oliveria, Flavia Saraiva and Julia Soares claimed bronze.
