Singapore’s scam, cybercrime cases rose to 55,810 in 2024: Police
The number of scam and cybercrime cases in Singapore increased by 10.8 per cent in 2024, reaching 55,810 cases, compared to 50,376 in 2023, according to the Singapore Police Force’s annual report released on Tuesday.
Scams and cybercrime cases have been rising year after year, with a total of 17,775 cases reported in 2020.
“Scams and cybercrime remain a pressing concern,” the report stated.
In 2024, scams accounted for 92.3 per cent of all cases, with the number of scam-related incidents rising by 10.6 per cent to 51,501, up from 46,563 in 2023.
Financial losses due to scams saw a significant surge, reaching at least 1.1 billion Singapore dollars (approximately $825 million).
Cryptocurrency-related scams notably made up 24.3 per cent of total scam losses in 2024, a substantial increase from 6.8 per cent in 2023.
