Six federal road projects ongoing in Abia, says works controller
The Federal Controller of Works in Abia State, Chidi Uwaeziozi, has said six out of 13 federal projects in Abia are ongoing with contractors on site.
He said that the other seven projects were stalled as a result of unforeseen circumstances.
Mr Uwaeziozi said this in Aba on Sunday while inspecting the ongoing Abia Tower- Alaoji stretch of the Enugu- Port Harcourt Expressway under construction.
He said that the 56.1 kilometer Enugu-bound lane of the Expressway from Abia Tower to Osisioma Flyover had been completed.
He stated, “The Umuahia Tower to Osisioma flyover have two carriage ways while the Osisioma flyover through to Alaoji road has four lanes.
“This is to enable town service vehicles to have space to operate while travellers moving from one state to another can use the main carriage-way without interruptions. The main carriage-way on the Port Harcourt-bound lane has been completed, remaining the wearing cost.”
The works controller said that what was remaining was the completion of the Umuahia to Aba stretch of the Expressway.
“We have about 550 meters completed up to stone-base level. Upon delivery, the aesthetics of the road will improve and the travel time will be reduced,” he said.
Mr Uwaeziozi said that the construction work is being funded by the federal government.
He noted that the road was 93 per cent completed in spite of the challenge of the rains.
According to him, the contractor has to change the design of the road to concrete pavement design to strengthen the load-bearing capacity of the road.
He commended the contractors for the quality of the work being done.
