Six killed over land dispute in fresh communal clash in Anambra
Six people are feared dead following a communal clash over a disputed piece of land between Omor and Anaku communities in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The command spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the clash in a statement to Peoples Gazette.
“Anambra State Police Command is on the manhunt for Mr. Nnamdi Maduneke and cohorts, wielding Ak47 rifles in the early hours of yesterday 6/2/2023, according to information received, the suspect and his cohorts without any provocation started shooting indiscriminately in Omor Community, Anyamelum LGA, murdered six persons and inflicted serious injuries on two others,” Mr Ikenga said.
The command spokesman further stated that a joint task force team comprising police and military has been deployed in the area to restore law and order.
According to him, these security forces have reinforced the security of life and properties and enhanced the provision of law and order in the area.
“Patrols/operations are still ongoing and the situation is being monitored,” the police spokesman added.
Mr Ikenga revealed that the cause was a protracted existing communal dispute between the two communities of Omor and Anaku in Anyamelum LGA.
Anambra has in the past week witnessed a series of extra-judicial killings, thereby raising concerns about the level of insecurity in the state.
