Six men on trial over alleged phone theft, assault at Agege Train Station

Magistrate Lateef Owolabi admitted each defendant to bail in the sum of ₦300,000 with one surety in like sum.

Six men were arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, on Tuesday over alleged theft, assault occasioning harm and conspiracy.

The defendants are Mohammed Awalu, 30; Unaisu Yahaya, 22; Jubril Danladi, 20; Habeeb Umar, 21; Solomon Ayuba, 22; and Usman Ibrahim, 25.

They are facing a three-count charge bordering on stealing, assault occasioning harm and conspiracy, to which they all pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor told the court the alleged offences were committed on June 17, 2026, at about 7:30 a.m. at the Agege Train Station, Lagos.

According to the prosecutor, Mr Awalu allegedly stole a Redmi 13C mobile phone valued at ₦150,000 belonging to Abraham Chia.

The prosecutor further alleged that the six defendants attacked Ternu Sughter and Mathias Leeve with cutlasses and an axe during the incident.

The alleged assault reportedly left both victims with bodily injuries to their heads and faces, according to the prosecutor’s account before the court.

The prosecutor also accused the defendants of conspiring to carry out the alleged assault, forming the basis of the conspiracy charge before the court.

According to the prosecutor, the alleged offences contravene Sections 287, 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Following their pleas, Magistrate Lateef A. Owolabi admitted each defendant to bail in the sum of ₦300,000 with one surety in like sum.

Mr Owolabi subsequently adjourned the case until July 28 for further hearing.
