The Imo State police command has arrested and detained six officers caught in a viral video assaulting a resident at Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba, in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

The pokesperson for the command, Henry Okoye, stated this in a statement in response to the video showing the officers whipping the victim with their sticks over an unspecified offence.

Mr Okoye said, “The Imo State Police Command is aware of a video currently circulating on social media showing some police personnel assaulting a young man at Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State on 22nd June 2026.

“Following a prompt review of the incident, the six officers involved have been identified as operatives of the command. They are Inspector Ugochukwu Ibe, Inspector Nwachi Chimezie, Sergeant Ugoezuhu Austin, Corporal Michael Obi, Corporal Ebuka Onwuegbu, and Corporal Amos Sunny.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, psc(+), mnips, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the misconduct of the officers involved.

“The officers have been taken into custody, and disciplinary procedures have been initiated in line with the extant regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.”

Reiterating its zero-tolerance for unprofessional conducts by the police and violation of the rights of citizens, the command insisted that the actions by the officers were inconsistent with the values, ethics, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

The police commissioner assured members of the public that the matter would be handled thoroughly, transparently, and in accordance with established procedures.

The CP added that the outcome of the investigation and disciplinary process would be communicated to the public in due course.
