The Niger State Police Command has arrested six suspects for allegedly snatching mobile phones in the state.

SP Wasiu Abiodun, the police command’s spokesman, said in Minna on Tuesday that the suspects were arrested on May 4.

He said the suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence from police operatives attached to the command’s intelligence department.

Mr Abiodun said that the preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had broken into a residence within the Kutirko-Fadikpe area of Minna and carted away iPhones and Redmi Note phones.

He said the suspects had confessed to the crime and also claimed that they sold the phones to Sule Attahiru, Abdullahi Mohammed and Shamsudeen Sabiu of Rafin-Yashi, Odu’oye Quarters and Darussalam areas, respectively, in Minna.

Also, the spokesman said another suspect from Badeggi, Katcha Local Government Area, was arrested with a victim’s Android phone while attempting to format and unlock the handset on May 6.

He said the suspect could not give a satisfactory account of the phone and was suspected to have robbed and dispossessed the owner of the gadget.

Mr Abiodun said all the suspects were under investigation.
