Smartphone users spent $133 billion on games and applications in 2021, according to a report.
Released on Monday, the report by Burga.com, an e-commerce platform that sells smartphone accessories disclosed that the amount spent on games and applications in 2021 grew by 19.71 per cent from $111.1 billion in 2020.
Burga.com in the report detailed that smartphone users spent $370 million daily on mobile apps and games in 2021 surmounting to a cumulative sum of $11 billion monthly.
“Consumers globally are projected to spend $133 billion on mobile apps and games in 2021 for both Google Play and App Store,” the report said.
“Users are approximately spending $370 million daily, translating to $11 billion monthly on mobile apps and games in 2021,” it added.
The report revealed that smartphone users spent more on Apple store, despite downloading more apps and games from Google play.
It said users spent $85.1 billion on games and applications from the app store while $47.9 billion was spent on Google Play.
Burga.com projected that apps and game downloads will hit $143.6 billion at the end of 2021.
The 2021 downloads represent a slight growth of 0.48% from the 142.9 billion recorded in 2020.
On App download, Google Play accounts for the highest figure at $111.3 billion, with the app store getting $32.3 billion downloads at the end of 2021.
The report projected that app downloads and spending will likely surge further, citing increasing smartphone and internet penetration.
Giving reason for the increase in usage and downloads of applications, the report explained that most businesses now leverage smartphone devices to offer various services.
