Sokoto Assembly elects Tukur Bala as speaker, Kabiru Ibrahim deputy

Tukur Bala (APC-Bodinga South) and Kabiru Ibrahim (APC-Kware) on Tuesday emerged as the speaker and deputy speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly.
This development followed the election of the duo at the inauguration of the newly elected lawmakers after the presentation of dissolution and proclamation letters by Governor Ahmad Aliyu of the state.
Mr Aliyu, in the letters presented by Bello Tambuwal, the clerk to the state assembly, requested the dissolution of the ninth assembly and inauguration of the 10th, respectively.
The speaker and his deputy were elected unopposed after their nominations by Bello Idris (APC-Gwadabawa North) and Aminu Al-Mustapha (APC-Sabon Birni North), respectively.
The nominations were seconded by Habibu Modachi (PDP-Isa) and Buhari Haliru (PDP-Sokoto North), respectively.
Mr Bala appreciated his colleagues for their confidence in him to lead the 10th assembly in the state.
The speaker, 47, assured members of his determination to ensure the best qualitative and all-inclusive legislation.
“We will ensure a state Assembly that will work closely with all the legislators and staff of the assembly.
“This is in order to support the government in achieving its desired objective and responsibilities toward the best governance that will be acceptable to all citizens,” he said.
