Sokoto monarch preaches unity, religious tolerance

The District Head of Gagi in Sokoto State, Alhaji Sani Umar-Jabbi, has called on leaders at all levels to preach religious tolerance,
peaceful co-existence of the country and other issues that promote national unity.
Mr Umar-Jabbi made the call at a special Christmas reception, organised by the Community Dialogue Committee constituted by Global Rights, an NGO supported by Kuka Centre in Sokoto.
According to him, leadership is about selfless sacrifice to the people and what one can offer to society and not to oneself.
Mr Umar-Jabbi, who is a board chairman of the CDC, cautioned people against spreading rumours capable of disuniting the nation and distorting public peace.
“Nigeria is great and will remain great. We need to promote peaceful coexistence, religious understanding and mutual harmony in our communities,” Mr Umar-Jabbi said.
In his remarks, Reverend Iliya Ibrahim, said that the Christmas period preached love, harmony and sacrifice, describing Jesus Christ as a “symbol of humility, selflessness and an epitome of empathy and love for the poor and vulnerable.
Mr Ibrahim said Christmas reminded Christians of humility, selflessness and leadership as exhibited by Christ himself.
He stressed the need to imbibe such virtues in delivering the renewed hope mandate to support the welfare of the needy in the country.
Also, chiefs of Southern Kaduna and Plateau peoples in Sokoto, Mallam Ishaya Bagai and Mallam Nuhu Labar, commended the organisers for uniting people from different parts of the country residing in Sokoto.
They appealed to Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of forgiveness, love and tolerance.
