Sokoto strengthens due process, procurement to ensure value for money

Sokoto State Government has prioritised compliance with procurement standards and due process in contracts to promote value for money, transparency and strengthen the fight against corruption across ministries, departments and agencies.
The newly inaugurated Executive Secretary of the State Bureau for Public Procurement, Abubakar Gagi, disclosed this on Wednesday while formally taking over the affairs of the bureau in Sokoto State.
Mr Gagi described the bureau as a critical institution responsible for ensuring strict compliance with due process, transparency and accountability in the award and execution of government contracts statewide across the state.
The executive secretary thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the opportunity to serve, assuring that he would operate an open door policy to enhance efficiency and effective service delivery within the bureau.
He stressed that adherence to standard procurement procedures and compliance with stipulated monetary and fiscal policies remained fundamental to institutionalising prudence, integrity and accountability in governance at all levels of government.
Earlier, the bureau’s Legal Secretary, Sufyanu Saidu, pledged support for the new executive secretary to harness opportunities and drive the state’s economic growth and development through effective procurement management systems.
Mr Saidu also expressed staff readiness to work closely with the executive secretary toward introducing positive reforms that would strengthen transparency and deliver tangible benefits to the state and public confidence overall.
In separate remarks, community leaders and union representatives thanked Mr Aliyu for the appointment, urging Mr Gagi to be a worthy ambassador of the Gagi community and the state in public service.
