Manir Dan ‘Iya, a former deputy governor under Aminu Tambuwal in Sokoto, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement on Friday, Aminu Abubakar, former spokesman to Mr Dan ‘Iya, said his emergence as the party’s flag bearer marks a commitment to greater service and development in the state.
“I sincerely thank His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, party leaders, stakeholders, youths, women, and supporters for their unwavering support. Together, we shall continue to work for the unity, stability and progress of Sokoto state,” he said.
The ADC candidate also expressed gratitude to Mr Tambuwal for his guidance, support, and continued commitment to the political advancement of Sokoto.
He added that the support from elders, women groups, and political associates reflected a collective desire for purposeful leadership and people-oriented governance.
Mr Dan ‘Iya served as deputy governor to Mr Tambuwal from 2018 to 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
