Troops of Fansan Yamma have said they foiled abduction attempts and rescued civilians in the Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

They also detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by terrorists during the rescue of the civilians in the state.

A statement on Tuesday by the spokesman for the operation in North-West, Aliyu Danja, said the incident occurred on Tuesday.

“On 17 August 2026, troops of Sector 2 responded to an abduction incident along the Gurusu–Anka Road and swiftly pursued the terrorists, compelling them to abandon their captives and flee,” he said.

He stated that seven victims, comprising four women and three children, were successfully rescued unharmed.

Mr Danja said in a separate operation in the Tsafe LGA, troops responded to reports of terrorists attempting to abduct motorists around Magazu Village.

“The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee into the surrounding bushes.

“The rescued victims, some of whom sustained gunshot wounds during the incident, were promptly evacuated to a medical facility for treatment,” he stated.

The spokesman added that on the same day, troops of Sector 2 responded to the discovery of a terrorist-planted IED along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in the Bukkuyum LGA.

“The area was immediately secured, while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team successfully neutralised the device, thereby averting potential casualties among troops and civilian road users,” Mr Danja.
