The Nigeria Army Officers Wives Association, 7 Division Nigerian Army chapter on Wednesday offered free medical outreach to vulnerable persons in communities along Baga road in Maiduguri.

Inaugurating the outreach to mark the Nigeria Army Day Celebration, the association’s Chairperson, Aishat Haruna, urged the communities to avail themselves of the opportunity to get free treatment.

Among the beneficiaries were people with eyes and dental issues, malaria and diabetes, while others came for blood pressure tests, among other concerns.

Ms Haruna, who noted that health is wealth, said the gesture was to promote the people’s health to enable them face this year’s farming season in healthy condition.

She also tasked them with a clean environment and hygiene to check incidents of cholera and malaria common during the rainy season.

Ms Haruna, who also presented food items to an orphanage and widows education foundation, said NAOWA chose to intervene in two areas – health and food – for the vulnerable “because of their relevance at this critical time.”

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke at the occasion, thanked the army for their regular support to host communities, particularly in areas of security and welfare.

“Such support will continue to strengthen the relationship between the public and the army,” said Baba Bukar, an elderly man who came to check his eye pressure.
