South Africa disconnects Nigerian High Commission’s electricity over utility services debt
The Nigerian High Commission in South Africa’s electricity was disconnected on Monday due to unpaid utility services debt.
Nasiphi Moya, the executive mayor of the City of Tshwane, in a post on X on Monday, announced that electricity had been disconnected due to unpaid utility services debt.
“#TshwaneYaTima: We’ve disconnected electricity at the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. They owe the city for utility services,” Ms Moya wrote.
The mayor also posted a photo of the Nigerian High Commission building in South Africa.
This comes as the majority of Nigerian embassies and high commissions abroad have been operating without ambassadors since President Bola Tinubu assumed office.
The president recently appointed some ambassadors to fill the vacuum. However, the majority of them are yet to be posted to resume work.
