South African hip hop artist AKA shot dead
South African hip-hop artiste Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA was shot dead on Florida road, Durban on Friday night.
Police authorities in Durban confirmed the 35-year-old’s killing.
‘The Fela in Versace’ crooner was reportedly killed in a drive-by shooting that took place while AKA stood outside a restaurant.
The shooting also led to the death of an accomplice and another alleged to be his bodyguard who sustained multiple gunshot injuries.
AKA’s family also confirmed the news via a statement expressing their grief.
“It is with extreme sadness that we acknowledge the passing of our beloved son, and confirm his untimely and tragic passing on the evening of February 10, 2023. We are awaiting further details from Durban police.”
“To us, Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, most importantly father to his beloved daughter Kairo,” his parents wrote. “To many, he was AKA, Supa Mega, Bhova and the many other names of affection his legion of fans called him by. Our son was loved and gave love in return,” the statement reads.
Considered to be one of the most sought-after artists in South Africa, the rapper was known for his popular hits with Burna Boy, “All eyes on me” and “Fela in a Versace”.
