Ngizwe Mchunu, an arrowhead of the South African anti-migrant campaign, has withdrawn from the campaign, admitting the march against illegal immigrants cannot last forever and he is not interested in anything that could collapse the country’s economy.

Mr Mchunu, who had participated in the anti-migrant campaign that has seen thousands of Africans flee South Africa as xenophobic attacks ravage the country, announced his withdrawal from the campaign in a video he posted online on Monday.

“As much as we did not accomplish everything we set out to do, we cannot march forever. That is the truth, because we have no intention of collapsing the economy. I speak as someone who has been arrested.

“We are very happy because our actions have started to yield results. We hope the message we delivered will be heard. I speak with great joy after more than 1,000 marches across South Africa before the June 30 deadline for illegal migrants to leave,” Mr Mchunu explained.
