The immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Imo, MacDonald Ebere, says the political future of the state and the South-East geopolitical zone is now brighter under the President Bola Tinubu-led APC government.

Mr Ebere, who doubles as the board chairman of the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Lagos, stated this in an interview with journalists on Sunday in Abuja.

He said that many political transformations are underway in Imo, the South-East, and across the country under Mr Tinubu.

“Political success is firstly predicated on internal cohesion amongst political actors and a well-articulated manifesto tailored toward securing the future of the people.

“This is practically what is happening in Nigeria under the Tinubu-led APC, and I am particularly happy that our own governor, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma, is at the centre of this movement.

“Apart from being the chairman of Progressive Governors’ Forum, Governor Uzodinma has secured Imo and the entire South-East geo-political zone under the APC fold, and our voice is now not only heard, but respected,” he said.

On the chances of APC in next year’s general elections, Mr Ebere said the party had very bright chances, following in-depth political analysis by pundits.

“During the 2023 general elections, some factors affected our performance, but they are no longer feasible today, making it obvious that our fortune in the South-East is assured.

“Governor Uzodinma and other political heavyweights have decimated all the challenges the APC hitherto had, and the party is now firmly rooted in the zone.

“Again, our people are no longer naive on the issue of political alignment at the centre. All the who-is-whos politically in the zone are now in APC.

“At the grassroots level, the awareness is now very high. For instance, in the 305 wards and 27 local government areas in Imo, APC has strong control, and the same is applicable in Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra and Abia,” he said.

According to Mr Ebere, who was in Abuja for the APC national convention, the future of Ndigbo is well secured in the APC.

On his speculated governorship interest, Mr Ebere noted that the Imo governorship election is not scheduled for 2027, as it is an off-cycle election.

“For me, it is too early to begin to talk about Imo governorship election now because that will amount to some level of distraction to the state government.

“The state is presently undergoing an all-round re-engineering under His Excellency, Governor  Hope Uzodinma’s administration and at the right time, we will talk about that.

“If you visit Imo lately, you will notice that the state is undergoing serious transformation both in infrastructure and socio-political structure, and anyone wishing the state well shouldn’t drag it into discussions that will slow down this progress,” Mr Ebere said.
