SSS alerts Nigerian Army over upcoming terrorist attacks in Ondo

The State Security Service has raised the alarm on an “imminent” attack on communities in Ondo State by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists.
The secret police raised a security alert in a memo dated October 20, 2025, addressed to the brigade commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, Owena Cantonment, Akure.
“Intelligence confirmed plans by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist group to carry out coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo and Kogi States anytime soon,” said the SSS memo signed by Hi Kana, Ondo State Directorate of Security.
According to the memo, the terrorists are targeting the Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko communities in the Akoko North West LGA and Owo town in the Owo LGA, respectively.
The secret police also charged the military to scale up security in the state to prevent the attacks, warning the terrorist groups “have commenced surveillance on potential soft targets in the above-mentioned locations.”
It added, “Consequently, there is a need to scale up the level of security alertness in the various communities to forestall any untoward situation.”
The planned attacks by terrorists come three years after suspected ISWAP members attacked a Catholic church, killing over 40 people.
In recent times, terrorists have made inroads in the south, after over a decade of killings and kidnappings in the North-East geopolitical region.
