Stakeholders laud Tinubu’s initiatives for sports development in two years

Stakeholders in the sports sector have commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its sports development initiatives, particularly the reinstatement of the National Sports Commission as the governing body for sports in Nigeria.
Some of the stakeholders who spoke during an interview on Sunday in Abuja said that the move had a significant impact on sports in the country over the past two years.
They also highlighted the timely payment of bonuses and allowances to athletes.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Kabiru Amadu, said that Mr Tinubu tripled the budget of the sports sector from N29 billion in 2024 to N94 billion in 2025.
He said, “This significant increase represents a 227 per cent boost, which I believe will address long-standing challenges in Nigeria’s sports development.’’
A former President of Nigeria Para Soccer Federation, Musibau Didi, said Mr Tinubu’s administration’s efforts to empower people with disabilities with the appointments of Senior Special Assistant on Disability Matters and Executive Secretary of the National Disabilities Commission, showed inclusivity.
Mr Didi said that the stakeholders’ endorsement underscored the positive impact of Mr Tinubu’s sports initiatives on the nation’s sports landscape.
He stated, “With these developments, Nigerians are optimistic about the future of sports and disability empowerment in the country.’’
Mr Didi said that the initiatives underscored the administration’s efforts to promote the welfare and rights of people with disabilities, and fostering a more inclusive society.
Ex-Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, who also commended Mr Tinubu’s administration for reinstating the NSC as the governing body for sports in Nigeria, said it demonstrated the administration’s commitment to sports development.
He expressed optimism about the plan to provide training compensation for athletes, a long-overdue development.
He added, “I urge fellow Nigerians to join us in celebrating President Tinubu’s achievements and supporting his vision for the nation.’’
Mr Tinubu’s administration is two years in office, but the successes recorded in the sports sector are significant in sports development in Nigeria.
