A Lagos-based lawyer, Ifeanyi Ezeogba, on Saturday charged Nigerian youths to stand against corruption for a greater nation.

Mr Ezeogba said that Nigeria needed young minds who would be honest, patriotic, hardworking, humble and innovative.

He spoke at the 28th Valedictory and Awards Ceremony of Ronik Comprehensive School, Ejigbo, Lagos.

He was the chairman of the occasion.

Mr Ezeogba said, “I urge you to always remember that education does not end in the classroom. In fact, it is now that the real education begins. It teaches character, discipline, integrity, and grit.”

The lawyer said that if properly received, education would be a lifelong companion.

He stated, “It empowers, enlightens and uplifts. It is the key that unlocks the doors of opportunity, but more than knowledge, education must teach you responsibility. Our country needs young minds like yours that are not only sharp with facts but wise in judgment; hearts that are not only ambitious but also kind; and hands that are not only eager to build wealth but also ready to build a better society. Let your education be for good. Stand against corruption, dishonesty, laziness and injustice. Stand for truth, hard work, humility, and innovation.’’

He urged the graduating students not to relax but work harder.

He said, “Do not rest on your laurels. Let this achievement be a foundation for greater things. Use your influence to inspire others. Use your knowledge to mentor those behind you. Use your light to illuminate the path for your peers and communities.’’

Earlier, the Principal of the school, Victoria Duru, praised the students for their hard work and academic excellence, and prayed that they would shine brighter in the next phase.

She stated, “Having been groomed by the school for six years, we are proud to give to the world, great ambassadors not just of their homes or this school, but of Nigeria. We are an academic and a sports school. We also lay emphasis on languages, not only indigenous languages, but also international languages, such as French and then Chinese. One of our students is currently representing Nigeria in Algeria.’’
