Strait of Hormuz: Iran says talks with Oman on vessel transit continue

Iranian authorities have said they are in talks with the Omani government to ensure the safe movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, disclosed this on Tuesday in an interview with state broadcaster IRIB.
“These negotiations, as talks between the two countries bordering the Strait of Hormuz, are being pursued with a focus on determining safe inbound and outbound routes for vessels — routes that would safeguard sovereign rights while also taking into account the national security considerations of Iran and Oman,” Mr Baghaei said.
According to Mr Baghaei, the talks with Oman have been positive at both the technical and political levels as the two countries move close to reaching an agreement.
Earlier on Tuesday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also said that the United States and Iran could reach a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz for ships’ movement on Wednesday.
The shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz due to hostilities between the U.S. and Iran for over five months has caused a major disruption in global oil and other related trades.
