Subsidy: Motorists groan over fuel scarcity in Kano

Long queues have resurfaced at fuel servicing stations in the Kano metropolis, with motorists in panic buying of the product.
The development followed the pronouncement by President Bola Ahmed-Tinubu during his inaugural address to end the petroleum subsidy regime in the country.
Checks on Tuesday in Kano showed that a few filling stations are dispensing fuel above N300 per litre while others shut their gates.
Long queues of cars were struggling alongside other buyers with different sizes of kegs to buy the product.
A motorist, Aliyu Ibrahim, said that he stayed in the queue for more than an hour to buy the product.
Mr Ibrahim said he came from Gabasawa Local Government Area to refill his car as the filling stations in his area were not dispensing petrol to consumers.
“I had been searching for where to buy fuel since morning before one of my friends told me to come to this filling station along Hadejia road.
“I got here around 8:30 a.m. and met a long queue. I hope to get fuel in an hour time since the queue is moving,” he said.
Another motorist, Baba Isa, said he had tried to buy the product at a filling station at the N194 approved pump price, but gave up due to long queues.
Also commenting, Malam Jazuli and Sule Musa urged the new administration to urgently address the problem.
While urging the NNPC Limited to make the product available, Mr Musa also called on the government to punish filling stations found to be hoarding the product.
When contacted, Bashir Dan-Malam, Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association (IPMAN), Kano Zone, said that he would call back after meeting with members of the union.
