Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman on Monday dumped the Conservative Party to join Nigel Farage’s Reform UK Party.

Ms Braverman announced her defection at a rally in London on Monday, resigning her Tory membership of three decades.

“I feel like I’ve come home,” Ms Braverman told Reform UK supporters, lamenting Britain was “broken,” and its immigration was “out of control.”

“We can either continue down this route of managed decline to weakness and surrender, or we can fix our country, reclaim our power, and rediscover our strength,” Ms Braverman said.

She becomes the third sitting Conservative MP to dump the party for the Reform Party in the past 11 days. Last week, Robert Jenrick and Andrew Rosindell dumped the Conservative Party.

Kemi Badenoch, leader of the UK Conservative Party, blamed her predecessor, Rishi Sunak, for the party’s woes last week, after two members of parliament left the party.

The Conservative party leader, who assumed leadership in November 2024 after her party’s defeat and the ouster of former Tory leader Rishi Sunak, said, “Allowing minor differences to escalate and taking for granted the electorate’s patience cost us dearly. We must not make that mistake again.”

The Tory leader also berated over 20 former party members who had dumped the party for the Reform Party, saying the wave of defections hitting the Conservative Party is not based on principle but about the character of defecting members.
