The Sultan of Sokoto, represented by Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, led special prayers on Sunday at President Bola Tinubu’s 74th birthday celebration in Abuja.

The prayer session held at the National Mosque, Abuja, attracted traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, and political leaders from across Nigeria.

Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said in a statement in Abuja that Mr Tinubu attended the prayers and observed Asr prayer afterwards.

The prayers sought Allah’s guidance, wisdom, good health, and strength for  Mr Tinubu as he continues to lead Nigeria.

Governors, ministers, politicians, and worshippers gathered at the mosque, praying for peace, unity, and national development across Nigeria.

The Etsu Nupe said, “This is a solemn spiritual exercise, not a celebration,” adding that prayers for peace, unity, and national progress must continue.

The Emir of Keffi, Chindo Yamusa, praised Mr Tinubu’s economic reforms and state support, saying interventions in salaries and infrastructure were producing positive results in Nasarawa State.

Islamic scholars from multiple sects across Nigeria offered prayers for Mr Tinubu’s well-being, national stability, and continued unity of the country.

Over 300 scholars recited the Holy Qur’an 111 times and offered extensive supplications for Nigeria’s progress, peace, and long-term stability.

The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, conveyed Mr Tinubu’s appreciation, thanking religious leaders and attendees for their prayers and goodwill messages.

According to him, Mr Tinubu remains committed to national unity and development, urging Nigerians to continue praying for the administration.

A senior imam at the National Mosque, Prof. Ibrahim Maqari, concluded the gathering with prayers for lasting peace, prosperity, and stability across Nigeria.

A separate Arewa Think Tank prayer session held in Kaduna also honoured Mr Tinubu’s birthday with prominent attendees and leaders.

Among attendees were a former governor of Kaduna State, Muktar Yero, Senator Tijjani Tafida, Emir of Wase, Mohammed Haruna, and labour leader, Issa Aremu.
