Sunshine Stars wallop Ikorodu City 4-3 in NPFL thriller

Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure, Ondo State, began the second half of the Nigeria Premier Football League with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Ikorodu City FC of Lagos.
The match, which was the Match Day 20 fixture of the league, took place on Saturday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
Sunshine Stars dominated the first half, securing a 3-1 lead by the interval.
The goal-scoring spree began in the 16th minute when Linman Ahmadu netted a lob resulting from a well-coordinated team effort.
Promise Awosanmi doubled the lead four minutes later, scoring from a rebound.
Sunshine Stars’ striker, Alao Danlami, added a third goal with a simple tap-in from Ogechukwu Ogbu’s cross into the area.
However, Ikorodu City player, Shola Adelani, reduced the deficit to 3-1 just before half-time.
In the second half, the visitors attempted to stage a comeback by scoring twice, but the hosts ultimately prevailed with a hard-fought 4-3 victory.
This was courtesy of Alao Danlami’s decisive strike.
In his post-match interview, Sunshine Stars’ Head Coach, Bobola Akonfolarin, expressed satisfaction with the result, noting the number of goals scored by his team.
Mr Akonfolarin acknowledged that his team would need to work on conceding fewer goals in upcoming encounters.
He stated, “It’s not a bad result, especially considering that we scored as many as four goals. We have identified the lapses and will go back to the drawing board to work on them.’’
With this win, Sunshine Stars now have 24 points and are set to face Bayelsa United in their midweek Match Day 21 fixture of the NPFL.
