The Super Eagles team that finished as runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, held from January to February 2024, when they lost the final to hosts Côte d’Ivoire, has been presented with title documents to the lands and houses President Bola Tinubu promised them on February 13, 2024. The presentation included certificates of their national honour.

At a brief ceremony on Monday, ahead of Nigeria’s AFCON 2025 Group C opener against Tanzania on Tuesday, the chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, made the presentation.

“Ahead of their opening match of the new AFCON campaign, members of Nigeria’s Super Eagles (class of 2024) have formally received their certificates for national honours, and title documents to housing allocations in either Abuja or Lagos and land grants in Abuja.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR pledged the rewards to the team following their second-place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire held in January/February 2024,” an NSC statement said.

While other players received MON, Ahmed Musa and Victor Osimhen were awarded OON honours, “on account of having MON earlier”. William Troost-Ekong was awarded MFR for being named the player of the tournament.

“Dikko also confirmed that the national honours, houses and land allocations approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, have been processed, with allocation letters issued in line with the President’s commitment to reward excellence and national service,” said the statement.

The NSC also confirmed that the rewards of houses, national honours and cash awards of naira equivalent of $100,000 by the president to the Super Falcons, as well as the national basketball team, D’Tigers, have been processed with the title documents to the houses and national honours certificates available for collection.
