Super Eagles players and officials on Tuesday boycotted their training session ahead of Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup African Play-off Tournament match against Gabon on Thursday.

Nigerian photojournalist, Sulaiman ‘Pooja’ Adebayo, who is currently in Morocco for the tournament, confirmed the development in a post on X, stating that the boycott was due to unpaid payment issues between the team and the Nigeria Football Federation.

“Super Eagles players & officials boycott training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments,” Mr Adebayo said.

The action taken by the team members, which appears a last resort to force the federation to settle the money they are being owed, may put Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals in North America in jeopardy.

Nigeria is scheduled to take on Gabon in its semi final game of the tournament on Thursday before facing the winner of the other semi final tie between Cameroon and Democratic Republic of Congo should Super Eagles win their first match.
