Super Falcons beat Tanzania 2-1 in final WAFCON warm-up

Nigeriaās Super Falcons defeated Tanzania 2-1 in an international friendly on Thursday, rounding off their preparations for the 2026 Womenās Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco on a winning note.
Captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, gave the 10-time African champions the lead in the first half, but Tanzania responded before the break to restore parity.
With the match seemingly headed for a draw, Esther Okoronkwo struck late in the game to hand Nigeria a deserved 2-1 victory in their final test before the continental championship.
The friendly provided head coach, Justin Madugu, another opportunity to assess his squad, fine-tune tactics and build cohesion ahead of Nigeriaās opening match at the tournament.
The victory will boost the confidence of the Super Falcons as they pursue a record 11th WAFCON title.
Nigeria will now shift attention to the group stage of the delayed 2026 WAFCON, aiming to reclaim the continental crown after an encouraging end to their pre-tournament preparations.
