Supreme Court to deliver judgment on Gombe governorship poll Friday

The Supreme Court has fixed Friday, January 19, 2024, for judgment on the dispute regarding the March 18, 2023 Gombe State governorship election.
The Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun-led five-member panel of the court announced the date for judgment after lawyers to parties adopted their written briefs on Thursday.
The Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate, Jibrin Barde, had filed an appeal challenging the election of Governor Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress.
They prayed the court to set aside the judgement of the Court of Appeal and the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which dismissed their case.
The court also dismissed the appeal filed by candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Nafiu Bala, after his lawyer, Herbert Nwoye withdrew it when it was held that his appeal contained pre-election issues and was a waste of the court’s time.
