Suspects kill ex-classmate, demand N150 million ransom in Lagos

Two suspects have been arrested for kidnapping, killing a 17-year-old victim Thompson, and dumping his corpse in a canal in Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, before demanding N150 million ransom from the bereaved’s family.
It was gathered that the victim, a former classmate of one of the suspects, had just returned from the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on April 22, when 23-year-old Elijah Emmanuel, and 21-year-old Tony Ogenata, allegedly lured him to their apartment and killed him before disposing off his body.
Narrating how they killed the victim, one of the suspects, in a viral video said, “I went behind the victim, held him and choked him for about a minute. I was feeling tired already but he was still alive. So, I told my associate to continue the choking. When did, we noticed that the guy had died. We tied the victim in a tope and put them in a big Ghana Must Go.
“We called a bike man, took the bag containing his body along with my working tools, because I’m a musci producer, to make it look like we’re going for a show. We we got there, we watched carefully, making sure nobody was coming. We dragged the bag into the bush, unzipped it and brought out the victim there. The place is Awoyaya.
“When we go got our family’s place in Ikorodu, I called the victim’s family and demanded a ransom of N150 million. The victim’s mother begged us and asked how about they bring N50 million, then we ended the call. I later called again and the victim’s sister picked and pleaded that she bring N5 million. Later she said she would bring N3 million.
“I said these people are just playing games with us. But I said with that N3 million, after sharing it to N1.5 million each, I can use it to open a hair dressing shop for my sister becasue she is a hardresser but is working as a house help. She eventually said she wanted to send N200,000. So, when I got to Itamaga, I went to a POS where the victim’s sister sent N100,000 twice.”
The suspect stated that officers of the Anti-Kidnapping unit arrested him in Ikorodu, after they approached from their jeep pretending to ask him for directions.
Spokesperson for the command, Abimbola Adebisi, could not be reached for comment, as her number was unreachable, as of the time of filing this report.
