Nigerian actor Akah Nnani has accused operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) of harassing him during a stop-and-search operation on the Road Bridge linking Osborne from the Third Mainland Bridge.

In an eight-minute-long video shared on his Instagram page, Nnani said he was coming from Ikoyi on Monday night when a police officer flagged down the cab he was riding in and cocked his gun.

“He was like, ‘Move to the side, park, park.’ I was angry and thinking, ‘Why would you cock your gun at me?'” said the actor, alleging that the officers were about 20.

He also mentioned that one of the officers, who looked like “a hardened criminal” and “reeked of alcohol,” repeatedly told him,”‘You cannot tell us how to do our job. We are here for stop-and-search’.”

The actor accused the police officers of asking him to move to a darker environment and “held” him by the waist after he refused because there was no official police vehicle in sight.

Nnani also claimed that the officers’ uniform had a SWAT inscription, indicating they were operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police.

“I looked at their uniform. It’s SWAT,” he said.

The actor further disclosed that after searching him, the cops accused him of possessing charm after he showed them his apartment key having a local drum attached to it.

Nnani, who decried the unending harassment of citizens by police operatives, said the officers decided to let him go after telling them he is an actor.
