Mr Buhari said there was a need for discipline and stability in all universities which held the key to the future of any nation.
“Even if it means that the National Assembly will reduce sitting allowances or be paid on casual allowances basis whenever they sit.”
The union in the university had, after its congress on November 4, asked its members to quit teaching over their withheld salaries.
The vice-chancellor of the University of Jos has appealed to ASUU to be compassionate with students and resume lectures.
Mr Gbajabiamila noted that the FG’s position not to pay salaries to lecturers for the time spent on strike was premised on the law.
The union is saying that its members did not partake in the industrial action with ASUU.
Joy Abuh, a Political Science student, said her prayer was that Monday’s ASUU congress would not end up with the resumption of the suspended strike.
The ASUU chairman added that students will “wait indefinitely, pending the payment of lecturers withheld salaries.”
ASUU is asking the National Industrial Court to declare as illegal the certificate of registration issued to CONUA and NAMDA.
The senate of the University of Uyo has approved the reopening of the institution and resumption of academic activities with effect from Monday.
