Mr Ekere is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He was suspended on May 18 by finance minister Zainab Ahmed, who cited the raging EFCC probe of the accountant-general over charges he stole and laundered more than N80 billion.
The nation’s treasurer was arrested on Monday.
“It is on record that the present administration has demonstrated a very strong will and commitment in its drive for managing scarce resources for the public good.”
“The union has gotten to a stage where it may be forced to take drastic measures to save the lives and families of its members.”
The finance minister told the ad hoc committee that she had no idea of the number of accounts being used to keep the recovered loot.
Attorney General Abubakar Malami on live television said the fund will not be returned to Delta State, pointing that the state government did not partake in the recovery process.
“We will put hands together to make sure that whatever is due to the government by way of revenue, royalty, fines, and so on do come to the government.”
