The grant is to assist Nigeria in the fight against tuberculosis (TB), malaria, and HIV/AIDS for the next three years commencing January 2024.
UN agencies have welcomed a pledge by 12 African countries to end AIDS in children by 2030, announced Wednesday at a meeting in Dar Es Salaam.
“At the national level, the prevalence of the virus (AIDS) was at 1.4 (four people out of 100 test positive), while that of Kaduna is confirmed to be 1.1.”
UNICEF said around 110,000 children and adolescents aged 0 and 19 died of AIDS-related cases in 2021.
He added that with access to treatment, HIV positive persons have become free to enjoy life just like any HIV negative person.
“We can be the generation who end AIDS in children.”
Since 2005 about $6.2 billion has been spent on HIV response in Nigeria, according to the federal government.
Tim Brown made history when he became the first person to be cured of HIV in 2008, after undergoing a complex stem cell transplant for lymphoma.
