According to WMO, polluted air causes more than 4.5 million premature deaths every year.
“We are asking for strong funding through redirecting fossil fuel subsidies,” she said.
“Air pollution has enormous implications for health.’’
The report did not cover major industrial countries in Europe including the United Kingdom, Russia and Ukraine which means the annual death rate may be higher.
The number of premature deaths from exposure to air pollution dropped by 45 per cent from 2005 to 2020.
The bank noted that the amount being lost was about 8.1 per cent of the state GDP per year.
