AfDB president Akinwumi Adesina said that nine out of the 10 most vulnerable countries to climate change were in Africa.
A support group leader said efforts were being made within and outside Nigeria to reach out to Mr Adesina to declare interest in the 2023 race.
Mr Akinwumi Adesina, who met with President Muhammadu Buhari last week, is rumoured to soon be joining the race.
“We commit to joining hands with all well-meaning Nigerians to draft Adesina into the 2023 presidential race.”
The honour is in recognition of Mr Adesina’s exemplary leadership and the bank’s efforts in eradicating poverty in Africa.
The group noted that given his antecedents, Mr Adesina, a former agriculture minister, could be trusted to successfully run the affairs of Nigeria.
AfDB says it is ready to assist Nigeria in designing and implementing ‘Security-Indexed Investment Bonds’ to raise more resources to tackle its security challenges.
