NSE said many Nigerians could hardly afford transportation to their workplaces due to the soaring cost of petroleum products, with petrol price at N1,350 per litre.
He said technical competence alone was no longer sufficient in today’s increasingly competitive environment.
The president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ali Rabiu, has urged engineers across the nation to actively participate in politics as 2027 elections approach.
Mr Rabiu attributed the decline in the power sector to long-standing political interference.
Mr Rabiu said that engineering diplomacy remained critical in tackling continental challenges through shared expertise, innovation and cooperation among professional bodies.
NSE has urged engineers to deploy innovation, systems thinking, and technology-driven methodologies in the government’s efforts to address Nigeria’s insecurity challenges.
He said the Senate made the decision without consulting with any professional body like the NSE.
He said his administration would focus on strengthening institutional foundations.

On Thursday, the Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, remanded Kabiru Shehu and Ali Rabiu for impersonating military personnel.
