The Federal Road Safety Corps says it has recorded a six per cent drop in road crashes across Zamfara, compared to the same period last year.
Mr Ma’aji said the core responsibility of the FRSC was to educate motorists, support accident victims, and arrest traffic offenders.
The FRSC stated that the 17 victims were mostly women.
The Zamfara command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps says it is starting special patrols.
The command spokesman, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said the measure was to ensure maintenance of law and order.
Mr Ma’aji urged passengers to always speak up against any recalcitrant driver while on transit.
Mr Ma’aji said the FRSC condemned the use of trucks and trailers to allegedly convey students of the institution from the take-off to the new campuses.
According to the FRSC sector commander, the crash claimed the lives of 15 persons, with 13 others sustaining various degrees of injuries.
