Mr Chiketa said that the quick intervention of the firemen prevented the fire from spreading to an adjourning gas plant in the vicinity.
Mr Chiketa said the fire service received a distress call at 6:20 a.m., and he deployed firefighters and four firefighting trucks to the scene.
The state fire chief, Martin Agbili, confirmed the outbreak, stating that firefighters were deployed to the scene to extinguish the fire.
The fire incidents were attributed to careless handling of fires and other inflammable materials.
“We managed to escape the mob attack with our shattered windscreen and some injured firefighters.”
The fire chief said a lot were saved as they prevented the fire from spreading to other shops around the fire incident scene.
The incident caused passengers, drivers, hawkers and others around the place to scamper for safety.
