NUT expressed concern over rising insecurity across the country, warning that continued attacks on schools threaten the future of education.
Mr Ajaero noted that teaching profession is the bedrock of every other profession.
Mr Amba said many students had little or no passion for the teaching profession.
Mr Amba emphasised the need for adequate funding to improve the educational system and working conditions for teachers.
The NUT president noted that 23 states have implemented the new retirement policy of 65 years of age and 40 years of service for teachers.
Mr Amba said the manpower crisis had left pupils to suffer.
The NUT president said basic education should never be left entirely in the hands of the local government councils.
NUT president said if the commission is established, it will regulate the unity schools’ activities and reduce the burden on the Ministry of Education.
On Oct. 5, 2020, former President Muhammadu Buhari approved a special salary scale for teachers in the country.
According to him, the situation is not better in many states of the federation.
