The bill scaled the second reading on Tuesday in Enugu during the plenary at the assembly complex.
Following the formal introduction of the bill, Senate President Godswill Akpabio advanced the proposal, passing it for its first reading.
The bill was sponsored by Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele of the APC representing Ekiti Central.
He said the decision was taken after “careful consideration.”
This followed the consideration and adoption of the Senate Committee on Finance report presented by its chairman, Sani Musa.
This followed the presentation and adoption of the report of the Committee on Appropriations on the bill by its chairman, Solomon Olamilekan.
He also added that several petitions were pending at different committee levels.
Some of the lawmakers who spoke also agreed with the bill, adding that it was time to punish electoral officers for aiding the cancellation of election results.
The bill passed its third reading on Tuesday and now awaits President Bola Tinubu’s assent before it becomes law.
