Mr Nwagou suggested that the statistics gathered should be used to effect positive change in the country.
The population fall was due to low birthrate by the younger generation who delayed or gave up on marriage or having babies, as well as the aged.
“With this preparatory activity, we are matching on with confidence that the 2023 census will be accurate, reliable and credible.”
The NPC commissioner in Sokoto appealed to the people in the state to sustain more support for NPC.
“Information collected from the trial census will not form the basis of the result of the 2023 population and housing census.”
An NPC commissioner said 7,718 enumeration areas have been selected for the trial census ahead of 2023.
The National Population Commission (NPC) says it will cover Daura in Katsina and five other local government areas across Nigeria in the forthcoming trial census.
Six local government areas shall be selected from a state in each of the six geo-political zones for full population enumeration.
The Commission said the census would provide demographic data for sustainable national planning and development.
The last population and housing census in Nigeria took place in 2006.
