INEC has dismissed allegations of irregularities in its online pre-registration data for the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration.
He noted that the exercise would continue for one year until Aug. 30, 2026.
In-person biometric registration started one week after the nationwide launch of the online CVR platform on Aug. 18.
INEC met with stakeholders in Katsina on Friday to discuss modalities for a successful continuous voter registration.
INEC on Monday announced the commencement of the CVR by August 12, 2025.
The statement reiterated that the INEC would officially announce the resumption date through its verified channels at the appropriate time.
Given the Nigerian context, INEC’s approach of using accreditation figures as the basis for calculating voter turnout is faulty.
The INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, said the affected polling units do not have registered voters.
“Pre-election activities for 2023 will begin in 2022, but as youths, we have yet to be organised because we have no focus,” he stated.
INEC spokesman Fesus Okoye said no Nigerian would be disenfranchised during the registration process.
