Mr Hundeyin argued he posted a document of a public figure, the president-elect of Africa’s largest economy because it carried overarching public interest.
The memo on March 28 first shared on Twitter by journalist David Hundeyin warned of an imminent threat blamed on suspected elements of separatist IPOB.
Mr Hundeyin felt “honoured” to have received the commendation, saying good journalism is one that makes impact.
Mr Hundeyin was awarded the Financial Crimes Reporter of the Year at the Governance Risk Compliance and Financial Crimes Prevention Awards.

The applicants argued that the suspension of Twitter has had a chilling effect on not them alone, but journalists, media houses and other citizens of Nigeria
The award is a public service journalism initiative to recognise and reward journalists, citizen reporters and social justice newsmakers in Africa.
