VIO says it has deployed 1,700 personnel to ensure the free flow of traffic during Christmas and New Year celebrations in Abuja.
Mr Emetu said the service decided to impose stiffer penalties to reduce traffic offences in the territory.
According to him, road traffic crashes are not accidents but are a result of the actions or inactions of human beings.
He said it had become imperative because the payment of fines or other lesser punishments was no longer yielding the desired result.
“Therefore, it is wrong for the person to feel that another one should be given to him or her free of charge,” he said.
“There is no day we don’t correct up to at least 50 riders as a result of one offence or the other,” he said.
Its head of operations, Deborah Osho, told newsmen during the raid that owners of the vehicles would also be prosecuted.
