Mr Kaura said the exercise was part of efforts to enforce compliance to traffic regulations and enhance road safety, especially during the yuletide.
He identified speeding as a major cause of road traffic crashes in the state.
Mr Mohammed warned that such behaviour “poses grave danger not only to the driver but to other innocent road users.”
Mr Longsan, who disclosed that the accident involved two vehicles, said seven of the students died on the spot, while one died at the hospital.
He also said LASTMA personnel evacuated the accident vehicles from the main carriageway to avoid another accident.
He blamed speed, route violations and loss of control for the crash.
Mrs Asekhauno described the accident as preventable.
Ms Oladayo said that road accidents resulted from people’s lackadaisical attitude toward road safety.
Mr Tinubu said the era of preventable deaths on the nation’s highways must end.
He appealed to governments at all levels to prioritise the construction of cycling lanes and pedestrian walkways.
