According to him, this measure is aimed at preventing criminals from exploiting such activities to perpetrate crimes.
Mr Ojelabi said the ban became necessary due to the security situation in the country.
The 17-year-old was handling professional-grade pyrotechnics that are not authorised for sale to private individuals, a police spokeswoman said.
The command expressed appreciation to the people of Ekiti for their support and cooperation.
He also urged the officers to address violations of the ban within their respective areas of responsibility.
Mr Abdullahi said that the command would ensure a hitch-free celebration across the state.
She warned that violators would be apprehended and prosecuted.
“Any person or group of persons found flouting this order will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” the police warned.
