The former vice-president said he stood up to his principal at the time, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, and convinced him to “leave” Lagos for Mr Tinubu.
Mr El-Rufai’s assertion comes days after Finance Minister Wale Edun said Nigeria recorded economic growth last under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Mr Obasanjo said a democracy that nurtured poverty, unemployment and insecurity should be thrown overboard.
According to the minister, the project had been a controversial project from former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime.
“Buhari was spending money recklessly,” ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo asserted.
“Can we continue to service external debts with 90% of our revenue?” Mr Tinubu asked. “It is a path to destruction. It is not sustainable.”
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was also faced with choices similar to those that Tinubu wrestled with for 60 days. It’s easy to forget now….
